James Edward Brooks, 87, of Zaleski, passed at 12:03 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born April 27, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Theodore and Ella Clark Brooks. He married the former Betty Malone who passed April 25, 2008.
Surviving are daughters, Sheila (Wayne) Tinker and Sharon (Dennis) Webb; a daughter-in-law, Nora Brooks, all of Zaleski; grandchildren; James (Katie) Walters, of Albany, Shiann Webb, of Zaleski and Brady (Kalyn) Tinker, of Ashland, KY; great grandchildren, Evelynn, Rose, Tinsley, Micajah and Xander; a brother, Jerry (Sharon) Brooks, of Zaleski; a sister, Juanita Ocawa, of Las Vegas, NV; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Bill Horton; and a family friend and caregiver, Casey Johnson and her cat, Logan. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Brooks; a granddaughter, Alisha Tinker; and a sister, Susie Decker.
James was a member of Southern Ohio SAMS Camping Club and the Seniors Citizens of Zaleski. He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Football, Vinton County Basketball, Bingo and Gambling. James loved to eat fried chicken and was always on the go. Those who were close to Jim will always remember his favorite response to surprising events, “Well Thunderation”.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, in the R.M. Williams Funeral Home, Wellston, Ohio. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Zaleski, Ohio. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
